"When we got to our remote location in Aruba, I couldn't believe how compact the RoadWarrior XL was! I immediately asked, 'Where's the rest of the equipment?' The engineer pointed at the RoadWarrior XL and said, 'That's it!' Plus it sounded great and we had no dropouts - the one box did everything we needed."

Morning host, Fresh 102.7fm, NYC

The typical surroundings of Fresh 102.7fm in New York City went from hustle and bustle of morning coffee carts and the din of rush hour vehicle and pedestrian traffic to birds chirping and the crashing of waves on the shores of Aruba last month. The lucky morning show hosts, Jim Douglas and Kim Burke, as well as their producer, headed due south for a three-day remote situated at the Waves Beach Bar & Grill outdoor restaurant at the Marriott Resort.

Due to limitations in bandwidth on the island, the engineer opted to broadcast via ISDN using RoadWarrior XL, Musicam USA's latest addition to its portable IP/ISDN line of codecs. Set-up for the remote took approximately 20 minutes, and the morning team was live and interacting with the board operator (who was 1,800 miles away) as if they were sitting right next to him.

Dozens of guests toting mimosas and Bloody Mary's drifted in and out of the tented remote area each morning to pick up the mic and boast about the spectacular accommodations, views, food and snorkeling they enjoyed during their stay. All were amazed at the crystal clear sound that was humming through the high-speed phone line and pumping out to the millions of listeners in New York City, Long Island and Northern New Jersey.

At CCS/Musicam USA, we love hearing about how engineers, talent and program directors are amazed at the simplicity, ease and compactness of the RoadWarrior XL. The lightweight RoadWarrior XL is portable and can broadcast remotes in IP with 3G network access via a USB modem or ISDN. For those transitioning to IP - the ISDN failover is a unique safety net. Plus it has four line inputs and can also be shared between two stations (i.e. AM/FM stations at the same remote - why pay for two crews and two setups?).

We've listened to all our client and prospective client feedback to jam in all the following features into one convenient box:

  • Configurable and scalable system to optimize link for low delay, jitter, and utilization
  • Built-in four channel mixer
  • 4 Mic/Line inputs & 1 line input and 4 headphone outputs
  • IP, 3G/3.5G (optional), PSTN and ISDN communications
  • ISDN failover option
  • Compressor/limiter for Program Channel
  • Configuration presets for various users
  • FEC (Forward Error Correction) and 'Error Concealment' to eliminate the impact of packet losses
  • CCS NAT Transversal Streaming Protocol permits router firewall pass-through with zero configuration
  • Optional battery with charge and status indications
  • User profiles for different talent operation
  • Meets all initial standards for IP compatibility of the EBU group: SIP/SAP/SDP/RTP

Thanks for your input! We are hearing fantastic feedback and NAB participants last month concurred with the positive consensus.
