"As we reflect on 2009 and look forward to 2010, we'd like to take this opportunity to thank our clients for their loyalty, feedback and support. Here's to more successful remotes and broadcasting in the New Year!"

Greetings and happy New Year! This past year was a busy one for many stations, and as many program directors and engineers look to 2010, the economy remains top of mind. We understand you're being asked to do more with fewer resources, so we made various upgrades to our family of IP codecs to help you manage costs while managing to do more remotes and innovative programming.

Musicam USA has been the world leader for IP solutions since 2000, when we introduced the first-ever IP codec. We pride ourselves on solid IP reliability and functionality of our units, so we introduced several features to the Suprima technology to underscore our commitment to delivering just that. Some highlights include:

  • FEC (Forward Error Correction): This mechanism compensates for lost packets on the network (available for IP audio with SIP/SAP protocols.). The user can select between FEC with 50% overhead and 100% overhead. This has proven to be extremely helpful when streaming over error-prone networks that cannot be avoided (i.e. wireless networks or long-distance internet communications).
  • USER PROFILES: With the latest upgrade, users now have a powerful administration menu for defining user profiles. From now on, you can set up multiple "user accounts" with different passwords that grant varying permission access levels to perform certain functions. This way, non-technical staff can have conditional access.
  • CONFIGURATION CAPABILITIES: The latest release offer maximum configuration capabilities for the double codec operation. Meaning, Codec 1 is now independent of Codec 2, so you can configure either codec however you wish. For example, you can transmit in MPEG to the studio, and from the studio in G.722 on codec 1, while codec 2 may have MPEG 4 AAC connected to another venue with an MPEG L3 return.

Configuration presets and streaming parameters (i.e. Rx Buffer and Time-Between-Packets) are now available and can be stored by the user on the front panel, allowing for an easier setup on remotes.

  • Configurable and scalable system to optimize link for low delay, jitter, and utilization
  • Built-in four channel mixer
  • 4 Mic/Line inputs & 1 line input
  • 4 headphone outputs
  • Full control (local & remote) of audio levels & I/O signal routing, using cross-point audio matrix
  • IP, 3G/3.5G (optional), PSTN and ISDN (optional) communications
  • ISDN failover option
  • Version 4 allows optimization of the IP link for low delay and jitter
  • FEC (Forward Error Correction) and 'Error Concealment' to eliminate the impact of packet losses
  • CCS NAT Transversal Streaming Protocol permits router firewall pass-through with zero configuration
  • Optional battery with charge and status indications
  • User profiles for different talent operation
  • Meets all initial standards for IP compatibility of the EBU group: SIP/SAP/SDP/RTP

Make a resolution for the New Year to propel your station into the IP frontier - our products pay for themselves in cost savings. Why not expand the number of remotes you broadcast or programs you carry, since all you'll need is a broadband connection? Musicam products also feature ISDN failover in Suprima and RoadWarrior, so the transition to the new era is smooth as silk. Plus we back every single one of our products with unparalleled technical support to help you get humming on the air - no matter where! Give us a call to see how easy it is to learn more about IP, upgrade your equipment or add to your arsenal - 732-739-5600. You have nothing to lose by exploring your options!

MUSICAM HAPPENINGS...WE PUT THE 'IP' IN 'VIP ACCESS'!!

Reporters connected via RoadWarrior broadcast the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade spectacular for 1010 WINS in New York City. Live coverage from 7 am to 1 pm detailed every float, from SpongeBob Square Pants to Santa's sleigh, as they strolled down Central Park West and onto Sixth Avenue, finishing at Macy's Herald Square in Manhattan. Listeners who weren't standing along the parade route enjoyed updates at various stops along the way, so as not to miss a character or cheer.

The excitement continued on New Year's Eve, as 1010 WINS opted again to utilize the RoadWarrior for its ball-drop broadcast bash. Live coverage in the heart of Times Square enabled listeners to feel as though they were there (without having to endure the cold and sleet).

Musicam USA is still amidst upgrading Prima clients to Suprima, which is an easy way to transition to IP (with ISDN backup). If you are a Prima client, call us at 732-739-5600 and we will walk you through every step of the process. It's simple and extremely cost-effective!

If you are already a Suprima or RoadWarrior client, don't forget to download the latest software upgrade version 6.1.2 and the release notes. Visit www.musicamusa.com and click on "Support," then click onto either "Suprima Support" and "Suprima Software Upgrades" or "RoadWarrior Support" and "RoadWarrior Software Upgrades." Check out all the latest features such as Forward Error Correction V4 and Error Concealment for MPEG compression algorithms.
