The new FieldFone II and StudioFone - an unbeatable combination:

The unique solution for sending audio over a regular phone line!
We've packed this dynamic duo with state-of-the-art technology developed through years of experience gained from being a world leader in the design and manufacture of digital audio codecs. Drawing on over a decade of hands-on experience, we've developed this flexible combination of portable and rack-mount audio codecs for use in situations where ISDN or other digital transmission systems are inconvenient or not available. Fast-breaking news, sports play-by-play, interviews, or even music…wherever regular phone lines are available.

Total connectivity
We designed StudioFone to be a versatile mate to FieldFone and FieldFone II. Put StudioFone in your studio rack and send FieldFone II out to the remote for instant quality communications over just one analog phone line. Connect StudioFone-to-StudioFone for those semi-permanent or permanent applications. In a pinch or on location, connect FieldFone II-to-FieldFone II and create an efficient, quality remote studio.

FieldFone II
The next generation of portable POTS audio codecs is here now.

Building on the basic concept of the original FieldFone, we've added the features and capabilities you wanted most.Compact portable and self-contained, FieldFone II is fully bi-directional so you don't have to worry multiple phone lines or 'line-of-sight' links.

FieldFone II doesn't need ISDN, dedicated digital lines, special frequencies, licenses or direct line of sight. Forget about having to sync up multiple phone lines. Just one regular, analog phone line is all you need. Two mic and 1 mic/line inputs, balanced and unbalanced outputs and two headphone monitor sytems with separate send and return level controls are built in. New, easy-to-read menu streamlines setup and operation. With FieldFone II, you just dial and send-even through a PBX system!

A state-of-the-art 33.6 kb/s modem, a three input audio mixer, and an enhanced MPEG Layer 3 algorithm all combine to give performance previously unheard of in POTS audio codecs-20 Hz to 10 kHz bandwidth with greater than 83 dB SNR when connecting at 33.6 kHz. Audio performance and features unmatched by any POTS audio codec, regardless of price.

ISO/MPEG Layer III-based algorithm guarantees high quality digital audio at low bit rates. We added our advanced error correction plus data recovery techniques gained from more than a decade of experience in building digital audio products. With FieldFone II, as with all of our digital audio products, quality is a part of the design.

Rear Panel for the FieldFone II
FieldFone II Rear Panel
  • Three mixing inputs: two dedicated microphone inputs and one input switchable between microphone and line levels. All inputs are independently controlled

  • Two independent headphone circuits, each individually controlled for local and return audio levels

  • Balanced and unbalanced outputs: ¼" unbalanced outputs for local and return audio in addition to line level, balanced (XLR) return audio output

  • Connect rates from 33.6 to 14.4 kb/s, with automatic line rate negotiation and fallback to 12 kb/s. The FieldFone II can be set for automatic redial should the telephone line fail

  • Our unique Sound-Shaper™ lets you "fine tune" the encoding algorithm to the audio source, maximizing fidelity while minimizing coding artifacts

  • 256-entry speed dialing directory, last number redial, and telephone handset input

  • Real-time line condition monitoring, a MUSICAM USA exclusive, allows you to constantly monitor telephone line condition

  • Four relay outputs controlled by the far-end FieldFone II, FieldFone or StudioFone, local control of the relays in the far-end codec

  • Universal self-contained power supply. No need to adjust power supply frequency and voltages when taking your FieldFone II overseas. Also 12-volt operation from external batteries

  • Remote controllable from any RS232 terminal or emulator. Software upgrades available free via our Internet Web site through any PC

Field-tested to guarantee performance

FieldFone II is the only digital audio device for analog lines that has been extensively field-tested by the industry, with professional engineering input to provide more of the features you need. The industry spoke and we listened, and the result is a product unsurpassed in performance and usability.

StudioFone
The rack-mount companion for the FieldFone and FieldFone II.
The StudioFone has all the features needed for studio operation. The StudioFone features the same outstanding audio specifications as the FieldFone II, adding an internal monitor speaker and an IFB (interruptible fold back) circuit.

Fully bi-directional digital audio over one analog phone line, separate send and return monitor level controls, new easy-to-use menu plus 20 Hz to 10 kHz frequency response with low noise and distortion. Efficient dialing and robust modem connections are assured with state-of-the-art modem technology. A Layer III-based algorithm gives you broadcast quality over a single analog line. And, like FieldFone II, StudioFone software can be upgraded in the field in about 20 minutes.

When studio-to-remote-site communication is a must, StudioFone provides a built-in talkback feature. A front panel mic becomes active when the front-panel IFB button is pressed, and return audio to the remote site can be interrupted. Both the mic and the IFB function can be remotely located and controlled.

Two mixing inputs, switchable for mic and line levels, and balanced line level outputs are available. Front-panel monitor speaker and headphone jack let you monitor both send and return audio, fed through two separate level controls.
